Servicers of VA Loans

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) defines a servicer as a mortgage company that collects funds for a debt incurred by a borrower to purchase a home. Servicers play a critical role in the VA Home Loan Program, as many essential loan management activities are delegated to them. Servicers must service VA loans to the highest standard as they would other loans in their portfolios of similar conventional and government loans. Each servicer determines the best approach to fit individual borrower circumstances and are required to comply with all applicable local, State, and Federal laws, such as the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), and regulations governing the VA Home Loan Program. VA provides regulations and guidelines of how VA loans should be serviced and maintained. Servicers must also report, at least monthly, electronic data to the VA Loan Electronic Reporting Interface (VALERI) application regarding the status of every VA loan they service within their portfolio.
VA encourages borrowers to contact their servicer to resolve any concerns they have with their existing mortgage. Borrowers may also call 877-827-3702, to contact the nearest VA Regional Loan Center and speak with a VA representative regarding their individual home loan situation for counseling and guidance.
